Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays has just released
Nuestras Hijas y Nuestros Hijos: Preguntas y respuestas para padres de gays, lesbianas y bisexuales.
This will be valuable new resource for Spanish-speaking people who are coming to terms with homosexuality or
bisexuality. Nuestras Hijas is part of PFLAG's growing efforts to meet the widespread need for culturally-relevant, family-friendly resources for
Latino/a gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered (GLBT) people and their families.
Nuestras Hijas is also a tool for PFLAG's 450 affiliates to use in responding to the needs of Latino/a families locally as a part of PFLAG's
overall work to be inclusive of communities of color. In October, PFLAG specifically identified diversity and inclusivity among its top five
priorities. Currently several chapters and PFLAG members are working to build community partnerships with Latino/a communities.
PFLAG has organized a network of Latino/a members to respond to questions or concerns in Spanish. "We want to respond to every call and e-mail we
receive with trained and compassionate PFLAG volunteers. Language should not be a barrier to getting help and support, and we are taking steps to
make PFLAG a more accessible organization for people who speak Spanish," said Kirsten Kingdon, Executive Director.
The new booklet is 28 pages of questions, answers and resources for Spanish speakers. It also offers extensive recommended reading lists in both
Spanish and English and a list of well-known gay, lesbian or bisexual people from an array of Spanish-speaking cultures. Nuestras Hijas can be
ordered from PFLAG's National office at 202/ or www.pflag.org.
