Frequently Asked Questions

Does your organization welcome people who are not gay?

The national PFLAG organization was formed in 1981 by the parents, families and friends of Lesbians and Gays.
In assisting them, the goal of our chapter is to educate the public, and advocate institutions
and governmental policies which will end discrimination and secure equality for
gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered people.
We welcome all people concerned with protecting the lives of our children, family and friends,
regardless of race, religion, ethnicity, sexual orientation, disability or any other category.

Are you obligated to speak during the meetings?

No one is obligated to say anything.  However, during our "sharing and caring" we
ask for all to respect confidentiality in order to allow all open expression.

Are people recruiting others to become gay at the meetings?

No, we believe that people are born with their sexuality intact, therefore, their sexual orientation can not be altered.
We hope that we provide a safe place for people to feel comfortable learning about their loved ones orientation.

Is PFLAG affliated with an organized religion?

PFLAG is not affiliated with any religion.
The people in our group represent a wide range of religious beliefs,
including those not wishing to be associated with any organized religion.
Neither will we expect you to deny your own religious beliefs.
We accept each other with whatever we bring to the table.

Will PFLAG expect me to march down main street carrying a banner?

Although we will offer opportunities for outreach and advocacy, doing so is not
required as a condition for membership in a PFLAG chapter.
